Description
CEC has an immediate opening for a PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR to work in the Surveying Department, as the Assistant Department Head. The Surveying Department at CEC provides services to support our in-house roadway and bridge projects; as well as provides services for developers, governmental agencies and other engineering firms.
This is a growth-oriented role with the potential to advance to Department Head within 1 year.
The role involves a combination of fieldwork and in-office responsibilities.
This job will provide an opportunity to work on conventional, unique, and complex projects for IDOT, county highway departments, local public agencies/municipalities, contractors and more.

This position will work on conventional, unique, and complex projects for IDOT, county highway departments, local public agencies/municipalities and private clients, and will perform and provide control, boundary, topographic, utility, ALTA, Right-of-Way, hydrographic, and construction surveying services.
Responsibilities
- Perform route surveying and layout required for engineering design and construction and complete all related computations necessary to complete said tasks.
- Perform boundary surveying, courthouse records research, boundary analysis needed for right of way acquisition, ALTA surveys, private land development, & related work.
- Prepare plats of survey, right-of-way plats/plans, parcel descriptions, and related surveying documents.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with the CEC Team and Survey staff, as assigned, on a regular basis.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Department Head.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and invoices.
- Perform job duties with limited assistance.

The anticipated base salary range for this position – up to $130,000 /year. Compensation will be based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.
Requirements
- Professional Land Surveyor license in Illinois
- Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs in field conditions
- Valid driver’s license with safe driving record
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent computer and communication skills
- Knowledge and experience of MicroStation/Open Roads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D is desired; or willingness to train/learn is also acceptable.
