Job Description:
FOREFRONT is seeking a skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey crews across a variety of projects, including boundary, topographic, ALTA, and construction surveys. This role is responsible for supervising crew operations, ensuring safety and accuracy, and maintaining communication with project management.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise field survey crew members, ensuring safe and efficient work practices
- Set up, operate, and maintain survey equipment (total stations, GPS receivers, levels, data collectors)
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA surveys
- Collect and verify field survey data for accuracy
- Maintain clear, detailed field notes and sketches
- Read and interpret survey plans, construction drawings, and legal documents
- Perform field calculations and prepare staking data for construction layout
- Train and mentor crew members on surveying techniques and safety procedures
- Monitor crew performance and enforce safety protocols
- Secure and maintain all company equipment and tools
- Update management on project status and address any challenges
- Perform minor equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Hours may vary depending on project needs and weather conditions.
Travel:
Local travel to job sites is required. Must be able to reliably commute or have access to transportation.
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on surveying experience
- Associate's degree in Surveying or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Strong knowledge of surveying principles, practices, and equipment
- Experience with surveying software and data collection tools
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and legal documents
- Valid driver's license and ability to work at various job sites
- Physical ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership experience in field survey operations
- Advanced certifications in surveying or related disciplines
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods, carry and set up equipment, and traverse uneven terrain. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to fieldwork.
